November 27: Webinar on in vitro human intestinal models

The Swedish 3Rs Center invites you to the webinar on human in vitro models of the gut. The webinar is a part of webinar series with a focus on Replace: a shift towards more human-based models for better research and drug discovery.

The webinar will be held on Thursday, November 27 at 12.00–13.00 CET.

We are pleased to welcome two excellent researchers with a background in academia who will share their work on intestinal models, with a special focus on intestinal permeability models and stem-cell derived intestinal organoids.

Maria Karlgren – is an Associate Professor in Molecular Biopharmaceutics at the Department of Pharmacy at Uppsala University. She develops predictive in vitro models, e.g. intestinal permeability models for more human-relevant drug discovery and research. She further combines her models with completely animal-free media.

Maria Letizia Di Martino – is a Senior Researcher at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology at Uppsala University. She works in Mikael Sellin’s lab, where she leads research on stem cell-derived intestinal organoid models and bacterial genetics to investigate host–pathogen interactions.

After the presentations, there will be time for questions from the audience.

Who should attend?

The webinar is directed towards academia with a focus on early career researchers, postdoctoral/doctoral students, researchers in respective fields, as well as industry and stakeholders interested in new assessment methodologies (NAMs) and in the 3Rs.

National network

The Swedish 3Rs Center maintains a national network for researchers and government agencies with interest in animal-free methods for research, toxicity screening and/or for regulatory purposes. The network should

facilitate contact and exchange of information between researchers and government agencies. When registering for the seminar you will also have the opportunity to join the network.
