National Committee's annual report

The Swedish National Committee for the Protection of Animals used for Scientific Purposes has published its annual report.

The National Committee for the Protection of Animals used for Scientific Purposes is steering group for the Swedish 3Rs Center and our common work is presented in an annual report. The work in 2022 is now being published.

In 2022, we could once again hold physical activities around the country. For example, we held the annual meeting for all animal welfare bodies in Lund, but also digitally for those who could not attend on site. We continued our popular workshops on stress-reduced handling of mice and rats, this year in English to be able to meet the high interest.

During one of this year's many webinars, we presented a template for the assessment of health in rodents, which the Committee's group of experts has developed. It is intended as a support to researchers, approved supervisors, veterinarians and animal caretakers to assess ill health in rodents before, during and after an experiment.

In May, we held an appreciated workshop on modern in vitro methods. We then had the opportunity to be at Lund University, so the participants could visit labs and also try different techniques themselves. During the year, the Committee has also worked intensively on shaping and agree on a working document regarding a national strategy to replace animal experiments.

We have produced several films, both animated and filmed on location, to visualize methods that can reduce and replace animal testing.

In the end of 2022, we also drew attention to the fact that the 3Rs Center has been up and running for 5 years.
