Lunch webinar: Non-animal derived antibodies
Welcome to a lunch webinar with a focus on the production and use of non-animal derived antibodies.
The aim of this webinar is to introduce the topic of non-animal derived antibodies. Therefore, we have invited Scientific Officer João Barroso from the European Union Reference Laboratory for alternatives to animal testing (EURL ECVAM) to introduce the recommendation on non-animal derived antibodies published last year.
You will also get the opportunity to ask questions, discuss the use of antibodies and ideas for how to increase the use of non-animal derived antibodies among Swedish researchers.
Recommendation on non-animal derived antibodies
In May 2020 EURL ECVAM published recommendations on non-animal derived antibodies. The recommendations conclude:
"Animals should no longer be used for the development and production of antibodies for research, regulatory, diagnostic and therapeutic applications. In the EU, the provisions of Directive 2010/63/EU should be respected and EU countries should no longer authorise the development and production of antibodies through animal immunisation, where robust, legitimate scientific justification is lacking."
The recommendations have had a mixed reception from researchers and organisations in Europe. Therefore, we have invited the main author, João Barroso from EURL ECVAM, to allow direct information on the context and outcomes of the recommendation.
The webinar is directed towards researchers, industry, government agencies and others with an interest in animal-free methods for research, regulatory- or other purposes.
Pre-survey on the use of antibodies
Before the webinar, we will send out a short anonymous questionnaire asking about your antibody use. We would highly appreciate if you could take the time to fill this out, as it would help us in the preparations of the webinar.
We have instated a national network for researchers and government agencies with interest in animal-free methods for research, toxicity screening and regulatory purposes. The network should facilitate contact and exchange of information between researchers and government agencies. When registering for this webinar you will also have the opportunity to join the network.
