December 11: Webinar on in vitro human oral cavity and liver models

The Swedish 3Rs Center invites you to the webinar on human in vitro models of the oral cavity and liver. The webinar is a part of webinar series with a focus on Replace: a shift towards more human-based models for better research and drug discovery.

The webinar will be held on Thursday, December 11 at 12.00–13.00 CET.

We are pleased to welcome two ambitious researchers with a background in academia who will share insights from their work on bioengineering of human tissues such as those of oral cavity and liver, with a special focus on oral-cancer-on-chip model and liver-on-a-chip.

Pierfrancesco Pagella – is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics, Chemistry and Biology at Linköping University. His research is focused on generating bio-engineered 3D human organs and exploring mechanisms behind organ and cell diversity. His main research models are teeth, cancers of the oral cavity and trigeminal innervation.

Caroline Beck Adiels – is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics at Göteborg University. Her research is focused on microfluidics-based technology for biological and life science-oriented applications and development of organ-on-chip technology for tissue formation and downstream drug screening processes. She uses long-term microscopy and AI to extract maximum information from cell cultures.

After the presentations, there will be time for questions from the audience.

Who should attend?

The webinar is directed towards academia with a focus on early career researchers, postdoctoral/doctoral students, researchers in respective fields, as well as industry and stakeholders interested in new assessment methodologies (NAMs) and in the 3Rs.

National network

The Swedish 3Rs Center maintains a national network for researchers and government agencies with interest in animal-free methods for research, toxicity screening and/or for regulatory purposes. The network should facilitate contact and exchange of information between researchers and government agencies. When registering for the seminar you will also have the opportunity to join the network.
