New work plan adopted

The 3Rs Center's steering group, the National Committee, has adopted a new work plan for 2026.

The Swedish 3Rs Center is a competence centre for questions related to replacement, reduction, and refinement of animal experimentation. The 3Rs Center is governed by the National Committee for the Protection of Animals Used for Scientific Purposes and located to the Swedish Board of Agriculture.

The National Committee has approved the 3R Center's work plan for 2026. The plan includes initiatives targeting the following groups

  • Animal Welfare Bodies
  • designated veterinarians and persons responsible for animal care and welfare, information and education
  • researchers – with a focus on doctoral students
  • research funding bodies
  • governmental agencies
  • policymakers and decision-makers
  • animal technicians.

For some of these groups, the Center has ongoing initiatives and organises activities every year. These efforts will continue in 2026. The Center will also continue to disseminate information about the 3Rs through its website, newsletters via LinkedIn and in webinars.

Examples of specific initiatives planned for 2026 include

  • a one-day seminar for researchers
  • guidance aimed at research funding bodies
  • support material on furnishings and enrichment.
