The 3Rs Center's annual report for 2024
The 3Rs Center has prepared a summary of its own and the National Committee's work during the past year.
For 2024, the government decided to remove the earmarked funding for the 3Rs Center's operations. Therefore, the Swedish Board of Agriculture has had to reduce the capacity of the 3Rs work. At the end of 2023 the National Committee, as the 3Rs Center’s steering group, made clear priorities and planned the Center's operations according to the new prerequisites.
At the beginning of the year, the Center had several guidance documents and compilations of knowledge that were nearly completed. Therefore, despite the circumstances, 2024 has been a year marked by the publication of new materials. Some examples are
- guidance documents on acclimatisation of mice, rats and zebrafish prior to experiments
- information material on animal-free cell culture
- discussion material for working with the Culture of Care in Swedish laboratory animal facilities
- checklist on the 3Rs for use in reviewing ethical applications.
During the year, the Center has also worked with other types of initiatives such as
- network meetings for prioritised target groups
- international collaborations with other 3Rs Centers
- communication and cooperation with Swedish governmental agencies involved in the work to replace, reduce, and refine animal testing.
The Center has also disseminated information about its work and the 3Rs through seminars, newsletters and LinkedIn.
